Declaration of Intent

We, the undersigned representatives of police employers and police trade unions, recognize the critical importance of fostering a constructive EU social dialogue within the police sector. In pursuit of our shared commitment to enhancing the safety, well-being, and professionalism of law enforcement personnel, communities, and institutions, we hereby establish an EU Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for the Police Sector.

 

Regardless of our preferences, the European Union holds authority in addressing social issues and regularly implements legislation that impacts the police sector. Engaging in the European debate through sectoral dialogue fosters collaboration at the EU level and guarantees representation of our sector's voice in policymaking processes. In addition to keeping us informed, participation in these discussions empowers us to shape policies affecting our field. Sectoral social dialogue serves as an effective means to stay engaged and exert influence.

  1. Promoting Mutual Respect: We pledge to cultivate an environment of mutual respect, trust, and understanding between police employers and trade unions, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of all stakeholders in achieving our shared objectives.
     

  2. Enhancing Working Conditions: We acknowledge the significance of providing optimal working conditions for law enforcement personnel, including ensuring fair compensation, adequate resources, and appropriate support systems to facilitate their professional growth and fulfillment.
     

  3. Fostering Innovation and Best Practices: We commit to fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the police sector, by sharing knowledge, expertise, and innovative approaches to address emerging challenges and capitalize on opportunities for advancement.
     

  4. Safeguarding Rights and Dignity: We affirm our unwavering commitment to upholding the rights, dignity, and well-being of all members of the police community, recognizing the inherent value of every individual and the importance of fostering inclusivity and equity in all aspects of police operations and policies.
     

  5. Advancing Public Trust and Accountability: We recognize the pivotal role of public trust and accountability in effective policing, and pledge to work collaboratively to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in law enforcement practices, thereby fostering greater public confidence and support.

In forging this Declaration of Intent, we embark on a journey of partnership, dialogue, and collective action, guided by our shared vision of a safe, just, and inclusive EU society.

 

Together, we commit to harnessing the power of collaboration and cooperation to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and realize our shared aspirations for the betterment of the EU police sector and the National communities we serve.
